Who are we?

Mehr F Husain is a writer, author, publisher and founder. She is a British Pakistani media consultant with a focus on social and economic growth in Pakistan and an advocate for sustainability. Currently working as a consultant in the development sector focusing on micro-economies and sustainable development via craft and digital literacy.


She has conducted regional programs focusing on economic growth, revolutionising the rural economy via digitisation and partnering with start-up organisations to scale developing businesses. She is currently working on a book about sustainability in Pakistan. She has appeared in The Friday Times, Herald, The Nation, Dawn, Pakistan Today, The Times of India, The Hindu, The Economist's 1843, Forbes, Vogue India, The Times, EShe.


Mehr has been part of the media for over 16 years and has held positions at The Friday Times as Features Editor and News Editor. She founded Pakistan's first independent literary platform which is a UN Asia Pacific Award shortlisted nominee and a member of the UN's Publishers Compact. Her social enterprise advocates for indigienous fabric, preservation of ancient craft and female economic empowerment. Mehr has was the editor of ‘Multan: A Spiritual Legacy’ which documented all of Multan’s ancient structures and was presented to Queen Elizabeth (2014). She also edited Pakistan’s first book that documents Pakistani craft in terms of what they are and their history which was published by Behbud (2021). Mehr is the author of ‘Pakistan: A Fashionable History’ (ZUKA BOOKS, 2020). Currently she is working on a book about sustainability.




ZUKA ACCESSORIES

ZUKA Accessories was established in 2018. It is a social enterprise that advocates for sustainable production and the need to protect indigenous fabric and craft as a way of life. Via our research we raise awareness about indigenous fabrics including muslin and khaddar and encourages innovation with ancient craft. It was part of Facebook Asia in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength. Today ZUKA Accessories has been featured in Forbes, Vogue India, EShe and is a vocal advocate for women’s rights, fair working conditions, sustainability and has financially supported development work in Punjab and Sindh. ZUKA BOOKS

ZUKA BOOKS, Pakistan’s first independent publishing platform that advocates for sustainable publishing practices and freedom of speech. Since inception in 2020 ZUKA BOOKS has published Pakistan’s first cultural history through the lens of fashion, first book of poetry about mental health and body dysmorphia and first graphic novel about emotional breakdowns in women. ZUKA BOOKS collaborated with a local fashion brand to raise awareness about the need for literacy in Pakistan and addressing mental health in women in a nationwide campaign. In 2021, ZUKA BOOKS was the recipient of an Honourable Mention at the prestigious ADA AWARDS and was also a UN Women Asia Pacific Award shortlisted nominee. It is also a member of the UN Publisher Compact (2022) as an advocate for sustainable publishing in Pakistan.



ZUKA Podcasts


In 2021, ZUKAST was set up which is Pakistan’s first podcast on sustainability. It has been well received and a series on fast fashion was conducted raising awareness on the dangers of it for a country such as Pakistan in terms of waste of energy and precious resources such as water. Our guests were from all walks of life as a means of educating our audience that sustainability is not a choice, it is a way of life and a better way of living with respect to the environment needs to be adopted. ZUKA BOOKS also set up Pakistan's first literary podcasts featuring local authors and book reviews.
